Kaylee's
Birth Story

We
went into the hospital on August 7, 2004 at 12:30pm to be induced.
The admitting nurse showed us to our room to await our nurse.
Since we had some time to kill we shot one last video diary for 39 weeks
and took a last belly shot. The nurse came at 1pm and hooked me up
to Pitocin and monitored our vital signs. At my last appointment on
Thursday I had been 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. My doctor, Lynn
Osmundsen, came in to check me at 2:45pm and I was dilated to 3cm so she
broke my water. I was very determined to hold out as long as I
could before I got my epidural because I didn't want to have to lay in
the bed for hours. So they brought out the birthing ball and let
me bounce around on it. My family began arriving around 3pm and
Justin took Micah home for a nap. My doctor came back in at 6:30
to check me and I was dilated to 4cm but my contractions kept stalling
out so they upped my Pitocin. I was a little discouraged cause it
seemed to be taking so long for me to dilate, so the nurse hooked me up
to the mobile monitors and Justin and I took off to walk the
halls. Within a very short time my contractions began to be much
stronger and started coming very close together so we went back to the
room to be checked. In less then 2 hours, at 8:20pm I was dilated
to 7cm. The nurse lowered my Pitocin and Justin and started
walking again. We only made a few laps though and had to return to
the room cause I was in too much pain. The nurse's shift changed
and we got a new nurse who was very funny and nice. She gave me Fentinol
to take the edge off until the anistisiologist could get there to give
me my epidural. That stuff made me fill very buzzed! I felt
like I had had a couple of shots of Vodka and I started giggling between
contractions. Well I got my epidural but it wasn't working on one
side so I had to lay on that side to get it to work. I began
feeling a ton of pressure so only a half an hour since I was checked
before, at 9pm, the nurse found I was 10cm and ready to push.
Kaylee was still hi so she had me grunt with the contractions until my
dr. got there at 9:30pm. It was very relaxing and helped save my
energy for the real pushing. I started pushing at 9:30pm and
Kaylee came into the world at 10:15pm. She was blue and looked
like she had been dipped in water and rolled in flour. They gave
her a little oxygen and she was fine. She weighed 7lbs & 1 oz
and was 19 1/4 inches long. She is very sweet and only squeaks
when she is hungry or needs her diaper changed. Her brothers love
her very much and the rest of the family was so tickled to see
her! We had tons of visitors on Sunday and I know she will be
spoiled rotten:)!
